NEWS

YES, WE CAN!

You’ll have to forgive us… we’ve been keeping a ginormous secret from you. But now, the time has finally come for us to share what we’ve been working on. We’re ecstatic to present CANNED BEER to our entire distribution footprint!

Canned six-packs of our year-round beers — Raspberry Provincial, White, Saison, and Tropic King — are set to replace our current 12-ounce bottles over the course of the next six months. Rotating seasonal Provincials will also be released in six-pack cans throughout 2020. We’re already thinking about sipping Pineapple Guava Provincial pool-side!

Being accessible to our consumers has always been a main priority for us. From creating approachable sours and encouraging people to expand their palates with saisons, to now packaging our product in lightweight, easily recyclable vessels. We’ve been working closely with our partners, Brooklyn Brewery and 21st Amendment on this and we’re thrilled to be one step closer to achieving our long term desire of lessening our environmental impact with their help.

Our in-house designer and marketing team have been working together over the course of the past year on the new design of our cans. While the packaging has a totally new look, it’s colorful and fun, just like the Funkwerks you know and love. Look closely, because you just might find a little secret on each can.

Our cans are making their way to shelves near you very soon and will be available in our taproom before the end of the month. While you’re waiting, empty your beer fridges and fill your coolers with ice! Follow along with our social pages to stay up-to-date and be the first to know when and where you can get your hands on Funkwerks cans! #YesWeCan

A CHANGE IN OUR BOTTLES
FOR A BIGGER CHANGE

With one small change, we’ve cut out 5,042 miles of bottle travel each and every time we stock up on bottles. Over 80,000 miles of travel will be saved this year.

For the past eighteen months, we have been making strides to decrease our environmental footprint. One small step in the right direction is right here in front of you. We have switched from our 11.2-ounce, European-made bottles to 12-ounce, American-made bottles. This seemingly small change not only gives you a little more beer but also allows us to reduce our carbon emissions by way of shipping lighter weight glass over a shorter distance. Now all of our glass bottles are produced in Windsor, CO, much closer than Europe which reduces our bottle shipping distance from 5,055 miles to 13 miles!

🌎 GOING GREEN 🌎

For the past eighteen months, the Funkwerks team has been making strides to decrease our environmental footprint. We have focused on three primary areas:
  • Ingredient Selection
  • Packaging Materials
  • Transportation
The first of these was a switch from European to North American grain which occurred throughout 2017 and was completed with the installation of our new malt silo in September of 2018. This has allowed us to decrease bag waste by approximately 56%. Fuel usage and our carbon footprint decreased significantly as we no longer require grain delivery via freight from Europe. We have two other large environmental initiatives that will be rolled out this year, the first of which will be announced soon.

INTRODUCING OUR NEW
YEAR-ROUND BEER: WHITE

March 11, 2019  FORT COLLINS, CO— Following an exclusive release in the latest iteration of Winky’s Snack Packs, Funkwerks is proud to release White in 6-packs and on draft across the brewery’s distribution beginning in March.

Refreshing and crisp, White is a Belgian-style Wit, pale in color and opaque with a creamy white head as a result of ample amounts of wheat used in the recipe. The addition of raw oats gives this brew a smooth mouthfeel while providing a clean, dry finish. Brewed to be an easy-drinking 4.8% ABV and an optimal thirst-quencher, White is delicately balanced with a perfect blend of spices which accentuate its Belgian yeast characteristics.

In 1995, Funkwerks Co-founder and Head Brewer, Gordon Schuck spent the majority of his time bike racing and little time drinking flavorful beers. During this time, a close friend introduced him to Celis White, a Belgian-style witbier with origins in the revival of the style through the US. Celis was the first beer that really stood out to Schuck and helped spark his passion for craft beer. In 2003 Schuck began home brewing with an attempt to recreate Celis White as his first recipe.

Meanwhile, Funkwerks Co-founder and President, Brad Lincoln was traveling around the US stopping at various different breweries and trying all the beers he could. While at a small brewery in Bozeman, MT, Lincoln noticed that everyone in the brewery was drinking the same white ale. He asked the beertender what he recommended and unsurprisingly, he recommended their white. Lincoln ordered the same white ale and it remained in his mind as something special.

These separate experiences with white-style beers lead Gordon and Brad’s desire to brew White when Funkwerks first began. Over the years the recipe has changed, the beer has come and gone and come again—but it has always been called White. “White beers are generally difficult to brew because you want them to be balanced, drinkable, and subtle,” explains Schuck. “We’ve made a White beer since we first opened, changing the recipe every time, trying to brew something that gives us that same feeling that we felt with our white beer experiences.” Brad Lincoln adds, “White is our Everest of beers; each time, we have gotten closer to the summit. It’s now, after almost a decade of working on this beer, that we may have finally conquered it.”
